Who was A.D. Gordon
A thinker, a man of the Second Aliyah and a guide, whose name the college bears.
Aaron David Gordon, 1856-1922
Gordon was born in the Pale of Settlement of the Russian Empire, worked for 23 years as the manager of an agricultural estate, taught himself languages, philosophy and Judaism, and at the age of 48, in 1904, emigrated to the Land of Israel. Despite his age he did not give up working the land and his connection to nature. He held that "human life begins with the nation, and the life of the nation begins with nature", and wrote about nature, ecology and a healthy way of life. He died in 1922 and is buried in Degania Alef.
From seminary to college
In 1953 Dr Yosef Schechter merged the Hebrew Reali School's seminary and the Workers' Stream seminary into a single teacher-training seminary, and named it after Gordon. Later the seminary received academic recognition and became the academic college for training teachers and educators that bears his name.
Quote
"There will be no victory of light over darkness as long as we do not grasp the simple truth that instead of fighting the darkness, we must increase the light."
